THESE ARE A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS!!

There are certain recipes that individual families use over and over again; favorites that become as much a part of the family tradition as any other aspect of our heritage. They may not be the most creative, certainly they are not always original; they may not even be that appetizing (it's just that we get used to them) but if it's easy and edible... hey write that one down! (Especially, if you have more than 2.5 children.)

My Grandmother could cook one of the best meals you would ever want to eat and when everyone sat down to eat, there wouldn't be a dirty dish in house, (except what was on the table.) The girls were taught to stand at the sink and wash dishes, while Grandmother cooked. I always thought that was a good idea, but my kids didn't much care for the idea.

Knowing about my Grandmother's reputation for her culinary arts, my Mother's confidence in her own cooking failed her. One particular favorite my father wanted her to fix, was rice pudding... but she could never get it quite right.

"It doesn't taste like my mother's," Daddy would say.

Mother tried and tried, then one day she burned it. The rice separated, with the rice on the bottom and a watery syrup on top. She was mortified, but when Daddy sat down to supper he was thrilled and he complimented her, emphatically, "You finally did it!"
